Entry | The enemy had apparently brougt up more Batteries in the night, for shelling commenced in the morning and went on steadily to the middle of the afternoon from three different direction - SERRE, PUISIEUX, ROSSIENOL, BOIS-DE-BOIZ. Damage was done to the parapets in 4 of the trenches. All the Communication Trenches were also searched. It would appear that every point in our lines marked on the German maps was shelled. A German clip was picked up with all the points of the bullets filed; the letter "M" was marked on the base of each. The enemy had put a big bend in one of their Communication trenches opposite HOCHE - evidently our MG fire on this trench in the last few days had caused them some annoyance. B & D Coys relieved A and C Coys 5.30p.m. onwards; 5 and 7th Platoons 11th Warwicks relieved 15 and 16, and No.6 relieved No 8. Fine day. [Signed] R F Clarke Major Comdg 4th Battn Berkshire Regt. |
