Entry D Company trenches were shelled in the morning, the 3rd Warwicks replying with 4 on Point 854 opposite MORAND. 4 shrapnel burst in the Orchard and communication trenches near, one man of A company being hit on the foot, but the bullet did not penetrate the boot. "Alarm" positions for the two Coys in local reserve were allotted. Working parties from A and C Companies carrying Rations, new dug-outs, communication trenches. Orders were received from Brigade HQ that all leave was stopped. 4 shells fell close to QM STORES in the afternoon. A patrol of 5 men under LIEUT GATHORNE HARDY went out at 9.30p.m. to look for a trench shewn on the aeroplane map running W of the POPLARS on the PUISIEUX Road. They started from left of NIEL, 4 men were left at the iron fence; after going about 400 yards the leader thought it better to return owing to the bright moonlight.
