War Diary

1915-05-17
Regiment 1st Royal Berkshire
Location France, RICHBOURG I'AVOUE
Entry The Btn was ordered to go up and support the 2nd Btn South Staffordshire Regiment, and connect with the right of the 5th Bde who were to attack the Ferme du BOIS. The Btn was therefore moved up into our old line of trenches about 11am and at 5.30pm orders were received to push on. During the time the Btn was in our old trenches, I.e. roughly six hours, the enemy shelled us as hard as they could. Very fortunately they did not do us much harm. At 5.30pm "D" Company under Captain C.W. Frizzell was in the 1st captured German trench, and all ready to support either or both the S Staffordshire Regt or 5th Bde. At 7.30pm orders were received that operations for that day were ended. Battn went back and took up the same positions as on the previous night.
