Entry | At 3.30am the order was received to assault and take the German trenches about 3pm. The artillery were ordered to bombard from 11am until 3pm at which hour the assault was to be launched. All preparations were to be made before daylight, but as the order was not received until it was daylight, it was impossible to make any preparations under the cover of darkness. At 11am the order was received that the assault would NOT take place. At 8.10pm orders were received that the Brigade would be relieved by the 5th Brigade, and that we were to march back to LE TOURET. Relief started at 10pm and was completed by 12 midnight. The Battn reached LE TOURET at 3am and bivouacked in trenches round a farm. |
