1915-04-24
Regiment 1st Royal Berkshire
Location France, BEUVRY - CUINCHY
Entry Battn relieved 1st Btn KINGS Regt in the trenches. First Coy left billets at 5am. It was decided to thin the line in order to minimize the effects of any German mines that may be underneath our trenches. This was done by sending one company back, and by sundry small alterations. Information was received that the enemy had been using asphyxiating gases with success against the French. Precautions were therefore taken against this. Solution of Bi Carbonate of soda was issued, and each man provided with a mask.
