War Diary

1915-04-10
Regiment 1st Royal Berkshire
Location France, CUINCHY
Entry Enemy put 68 6" shells near the Church and left support companies headquarters, casualties one man killed, four wounded, owing to shell pitching in trench. A portion of our trenches were blown in but were immediately repaired; our howitzers shelled enemy's brick stacks about midday. German sniper on German brickstacks observed lying over the edge dead. A great deal more work was done in the trenches. During the 9/10/11 we were worried by the enemy's trench mortar. It was decided that our forward brickstack was likely to fall owing to portion of the front face becoming detached by the explosion of our mine on April 3rd. Endeavours were therefore made to pull it down with ropes but it withstood all our efforts. Patrols were sent out during the night but discovered nothing of special interest.
