War Diary

1945-02-16
Regiment 30th Royal Berkshire
Location Lierop, Holland
Entry 2359. By noon all stragglers had rejoined the bn less 1 Lloyd carrier which had had to be taken into workshops at BRUGES. In view of the general inexperience of the bn, the road move can be counted a great credit to the convoy leaders and drivers concerned. The remainder of the bn arrived by train to HELMONT at 1900 hrs. The bn is billetted in houses in the village. LIEROP though unscarred by war has its trials in the shortage of bread and meat. Either of which (with chocolate and cigarettes) may easily be bartered for eggs which are plentiful. Weather fine and mild. Co and IO had a preliminary conference with Bde and the US Regt whose bns the Bde will be relieving. The Bde has been incorporated in VIII Corps, the Commander of which met the CO at Bde HQ in the afternoon. The bn is to go into posns along the West bank of R MAAS between VENRAIJ and VENLO. Weather damp, misty.
