War Diary

1945-02-15
Regiment 30th Royal Berkshire
Location Lierop, Holland
Entry 2359. Road party of all vehs under comd Comd Offr left OSTEND for new location 0400 hrs. The long drive of nearly 200 miles was for most drivers a new experience from which they emerged very creditably. Conditions of weather and visibility were bad and in the fwd areas complete absence of traffic control and heavy road congestion entailed inevitable splitting of the Coln which with one major and several minor breakdowns brought chaos. Most vehs however arrived at the destination, this small village 25 m WEST of VENLO, before midnight, the leading vehs arriving at 2150 hrs approx - after a journey of 17 hours on the road, the last 7 without any halt. The move across BELGIUM into HOLLAND, apart from the convoy incidents noted, was uneventful. Weather cold, damp, misty and showery.
