Entry 0405: A Coy relief completed & coy holding LORENZO 0730: About 40 enemy with tank or S.P. gun, counter attacked LORENZO, overrunning 8 pl. The situation was later restored with the aid of two pls of LIR. 8 pl. were all casualties except 18 sgt 1 pte. There were 5 other casualties in rest of coy. 0915: C.O. to Bde. Bn less A Coy ordered to relieve 7 Oxf & Bucks on M. DAMIANO night 20/21. [This was passed to coys at O.Gp. Conference 12.00]. Also one coy to take up position astride road 847977 & protect rear of 167 Bde on DAMIANO and SALUATITO 1510: Bde telephoned that A Coy in LORENZO would be relieved night 20/21. Passed to A Coy with instructions 1630: 7 Oxf. & Bucks. Could be seen being counter-attacked. C.O. went to Bde, where he was told that the 7 Oxf & Bucks & 8 R.F. on SALVATITO forced to withdraw, the Bn would have to counterattack to restore the situation; if not then the relief would proceed as arranged. At present Bn. Would hold firm base on Pt. 275. (8498) 1645: Bde Op. Order for relief received 1755: Bn. O. Gp. Conference. Bn to move forthwith to Pt.275. D & C Coys to establish posns on top of hill. B Coy with Bn HQ in reserve. A Coy would follow when relieved. Order of march D,C,Bn HQ,B. Start Point, D Coy HQ, 8 R.F. to guide to 8 R.F. Bn HQ. 845978 where 7 Oxf & Bucks guides would meet Bn. 1830: Bn HQ moved off. On arrival at 8 R.F. Bn HQ, Bn was told that there was no news of situation at summit.
