At 2200 hrs he was overtaken by an Enemy patrol of 11 men at 942055. Enemy patrol went to 945050 where 8 remained, 3 went on to 955051 and remainder until 0600 hrs when they withdrew by same route Informant OP: 5 men near house 940064. Dispersed by shells Serial 69: Date 17 Nov: Time 1525: Unit LIR: Enemy gun at 899056 ENGAGED BY ARTY Serial 70: Date 17 Nov: Time 1600: Unit LIR: Informant P: To observe LA VALLE and COCURUZZO. No movement seen in FOSSE COCURUZZO area. No sign of movement LA VALLE area until 1250 hrs, when signs of meal time were seen. Movement of men with dishes to and from house and wood Informant OP: Reports similar movements. Deductions (confirmed by civilians) enemy are using deep shelters constructed by themselves and using house as HQ and adm Serial 71: Date 17 Nov: Time 1900: Unit 1 LS: At 1415 hrs 6 GERMANS seen by house 945056 at 1620 hrs 2 GERMANS seen same place. 5 rounds gunfire got them. RA fired. No result seen Sheet 78: Serial 72: Date 17 Nov: Time 1955: Unit 1 LS: Considerable spandau fire from other side of CALABRITTO and directed towards MONASTERY HILL Serial 73: Date 17 Nov: Time 2145: Unit DIV: Informant C: Stated enemy had evacuated ROCCAD'EVANDRO and all enemy had withdrawn across river because our arty was too much for them (This statement must be wrong because enemy have been seen on M CAMINO) Informant RA: Reported enemy on pt 819 had been showing themselves today in such a way as to suggest they were new tps with bad fieldcraft. These two incidents seem to suggest a relief, which is quite likely in view of the length of time 15 Pz Div have been in line and casualities suffered.
