War Diary

1915-04-01
Regiment 1st Royal Berkshire
Location France, CUINCHY
Entry This day being BISMARCK's birthday, and one hundred years having elapsed since his birth, it was thought possible that the enemy might launch an attack against us. Every possible precaution was taken and the General (Brig Gen R Fanshawe) brought up all his reserves into places of readiness behind our firing line. The Battn stood to arms about 4am and about 8am the order to carry on as usual was received. The enemy obviously had no inclination to celebrate the 1st April with an attack. 19th Reinforcement. 33 other ranks.
