Entry | Activities normal. OBSERVATIONS METEOROLOGICAL During the first half of the month the weather was normal for the time of year, towards the end of the month the weather became noticeably colder, with frequent intervals of rain. OPERATIONS During the month there has been one operation - "NIGHTSHIRT III". This took place on the night 20/21 September, commencing at 2300hrs and finishing at 0400hrs. This was an area check of people living in WEHOFEN, (Grid square 3226, sheet Q.1., 1/100,000. GSGS 4416). The results were as follows:- 1. Persons detained - Nil. 2. Houses without house lists - 26. 3. Persons on house list but not present - 76. 4. Persons without means of identification - 74. 5. Total persons screened - 60. 6. Curfew breakers - 5. Action is being taken by Mil Gov against offenders in 2 and 6 above. TRAINING Potential Bn signallers are attending a Cadre at HQ Coy. The first four weeks training has been completed. A further 4 weeks training is intended. Proficient signallers will then be placed in the Bn reserve, and used as replacements to the signal platoon as required. A three week NCO's Cadre has been held, and a potential NCO's Cadre of three weeks duration commenced on Sep 24th. In Coys normal training has proceeded as far as operational commitments permit. As far as possible every other afternoon is being devoted to sport, and other recreational training. EDUCATION The Army educational scheme started on 3 Sep 45. An average of 270 students are having approx 3 hours instruction per week. The subjects being studied are:- English. French, German, Maths, Signwriting, Book-keeping, Shorthand, Driving and maintenance, Music, Building construction and Motor mechanism. In addition weekly lectures on ABCA and BWP are attended by all ranks. Owing the lack of certain equipment, instruction in certain manual trades is being held up. Pre-vocational attachments are being arranged in certain subjects. |
