| Entry | Operational. (1) 'D' Coy moves carried out as per Move Orders of 2 Aug. 'A' & 'B' Coys occupied PALACE and COURT by 1130 & 1030 hrs respectively. No opposition, a few Booby Traps left by Japs cleared by R.E's. (2) 'D' Coy patrols reported M.S. 27 & M.S. 28 clear by 1530 hrs. An abandoned Jap 150mm gun found near M.S. 28, several skeletons around gun. Patrol returned down STAIRCASE Rd to M.S. 27. No sign of any enemy. Road cratered in 5 places. (3) Line laid to PALACE & COURT. (4) 'C' Coy moved to HEART by 0900 hrs. (5) C.Os Pl returned to NEVIS at 1200 hrs. (6) R.A's registered N slopes of PALACE & COURT for D.F. tasks. 3" Mortars registered E slopes of PALACE & COURT. (7) C.O held conference at 1600 hrs & issued following orders for 4 Aug. All moves carried out on Mule basis. (A) Bn HQ & HQ Coy move to ch junc joining Pt 233, with 1 Sect 3" Mtrs, 1 Pl M.M.Gs. (B) 'C' Coy move at first light with 2 Pls 'D' Coy plus party of R.E's (picking up 1 Pl at LOOP on route) & occupy M.S. 28 patrolling to M.S. 29. 1 Pl 'D' Coy plus Sappers move down road from M.S. 28 to IRON Bdge & clear road of Booby Traps 'D' Coy Pl then reverts to comd 'D' Coy. (C) 'D' Coy less 1 Pl moves to Bn HQ area at Pt 233. (D) 1 Pl 'D' Coy remains at TRIANGLE with 2 Sect 3" Mtrs under comd. (E) R.A.P. moves to Pt 233. (F) Bn Mules move to Pt 233. E & F moves take place after R.E's have made footbridge over chaung. Following Code Words to be used. (1) M.S. 26 clear - Salmon. (2) M.S. 28 clear - Trout. (3) Rd cleared from M.S. 26/28 - Cod. (4) M.S. 29 clear - Herring. Administration. Supplies to be brought to Ferry M.S. 25 by M.T. & then by mules to Coy areas. Miscellaneous. Brigadier 62 Bde visited Bn. Brigadier 1st Kings African Rifles & his Bn Comdrs visited Bn areas. 62 Bde Op Order No.24 for occupation of STAIRCASE by the Bn issued. Sgt Cross, Ptes Holmes, Prodger, Hinks & Lynn, age groups 15 & 16 left Bn for release via Rangoon. |
