Entry | 'D' Coy ambush returned - no Japs seen. At 1200 hrs a villager from NGAZILAUNG 9756 reported the following as having been related to him by villagers from the undermentioned villages. For ten days the villages of KANBYIN 1646, MIDAINGDAN AJK 1048, KYAUNGSU 1949, MYAUNG - U 2049, MEZALIGON 1649 and surrounding jungle had been occupied by 20,000 Japs with bullock carts, horses, mules and 20 elephants. They were accompanied by both Burmese & Japanese women, and had several high Burmese Govt officials as prisoners. They had originally come from THANDAUNG QA 11 and had retreated as far as SHWEGIN, but on finding this held by our troops had returned to MON area 1046. From here they moved to the villages already mentioned, seizing all food & furniture, and turning the villagers out. Some bashas were being occupied, but the majority were living in small shelters constructed from materials obtained by destroying villagers homes. The above information was forwarded to 1st East Yorks, to take necessary action. At 1410 hrs the following message was received from Div H.Q. - 300 Japs in TEINMYOKE QA 6751 24 May 45 making for BON QA 7581.
