1945-05-06
Regiment 2nd Royal Berkshire
Location Area of Pagoda 2 & Trk junc 964988, Burma
Entry Patrols during the morning soon identified a strong enemy posn stretching from Pagoda 1 along the neck running N.E. down to track junction 967994, through the houses 970993 and so to village in sq. 9798. This information resulted in the preparation of 2 alternative plans, to be carried out on the 7th (1) An attack with all available support incl armoured cars astride the road running North East so as to cut the enemy posn in two and isolate Pagoda 1. (2) To contain the known enemy posns, whilst executing a right hook so as to cut the main TOUGOO - THANDAUNG Rd at approx M.S. 4 1/4 and then eliminate the enemy posn by attacking down onto it from the East. The decision could not be made as to which plan should be adopted until it was discovered whether the armoured cars could reach the scene in time as most of the ground South of the main road was very marshy. Heavy rain again fell about midnight and an enemy jitter party fired a number of grenades into the perimeter causing one wounded. Casualties - 1 O.R killed, 2 O.Rs wounded. 1 O.R missing. 16 O.Rs rejoined ex hospital. Reference to Appendices: Appx I. 1-2. AFW 3008-9 dated 6 May 45.
