Entry | At 0545 hrs a 'C' Coy patrol to the track junc 964988 was fired upon and suffered casualties - 2 missing. At 0645 hrs Tac HQ and 'D' Coy moved out to 'B' and 'C' Coys area, Bn HQ and HQ Coy following at 1030 hrs. The airstrike did not take place as the demand was not cleared sufficiently early to be met. Bn HQ being established at 962983 patrols were sent out 1000 yds east of the known enemy posns to discover whether 'D' Coy might not move round that way and so cut the Rd TOUNGOO - THANDAUNG at M.S.4. A water point at least half way to the objective was, however, considered essential for the maintenance of the force, and as this was not discovered until late in the day, the idea was temporarily abandoned. At approx 1500 hrs the Pl of 'B' Coy returned from Pt 270. 'D' Coy established a night ambush, strength 1 Pl, at bridge 971985. Another Pl of 'D' Coy, moving out to establish a second ambush on the track at 967994 was itself ambushed in the area Pagoda 970988 suffering casualties 3 missing. A night recce patrol to the area of the track junction 964988 to try and discover the missing men from the 0545 hrs patrol heard much talking and movement and this area was subjected to arty harassing fire during the night. At 1900 hrs orders were received for the Bn, less 'A' Coy, to break contact before first light 30 Apr and come into Bde reserve concentrating in area W of bridge 9197, 'A' Coy rejoining the bn on relief by Coy 8. F.F.R. Casualties - 2 O.Rs missing. Reference to Appendices: None. |
