Entry | The body of 1 Jap officer was found 2 yds from 'A' Coys perimeter. A successful airstrike was made against the Pogadas 1 and 2 at 1000 hrs, but approx 1 hour later our posns were shelled by 2 x 105 mm guns. Patrols to the Pagodas 1 and 2 confirmed that they were strongly held. One enemy was killed in a patrol clash. Meanwhile the Bn, less 'A' and 'D' Coys, had reached TOUNGOO at 0400 hrs. and occupied the general area 913974. At 1345 hrs this force, with 2 tps 274 Bty 33 A/T Regt moved out by march route to join the remainder of the Bn. Bn tasks as follows (1) to concentrate area KARENCHAUNG 950985 and hold bridge at 953988 (2) carry out recce with a view to attacking and capturing ridge feature in SQ. 9698 9699 by night or day (3) Recce towards Pt 270 9696 with a view to establishing two Coys on it as soon as possible. An officer patrol sent out at approx 1530 hrs reported Pt 270 clear 2 hours later so 'B' Coy with 1 x 3" Mortar and F.O.O. 115 Fd Regt moved out at 2030 hrs and occupied the posn just after midnight. Another officer patrol confirmed that the Pogada 1 was still held. Bn dispositions for night 27/28 as follows :- Bn HQ and 'C' Coy and 2 trps 274 Bty astride the rd at KARENCHAUNG. 'A' and 'D' Coys unchanged. Patrolling continued throughout the night. 115 Fd Regt and 1 Bty 134 Medium Regt were in support. Own casualties - 1 wounded (shelling). Enemy - 1 killed.
