War Diary

1945-03-22
Regiment 2nd Royal Berkshire
Location Mingala, Burma
Entry Early in morning a Jap jitter party surprised a 'B' Coy Section post, which withdrew West across the canal. Considerable small arms firing took place, but only one 'B' Coy man was wounded. 'A' Coy found 10 enemy dead bodies, incl 2 offrs, and took one slightly wounded prisoner from the previous nights battle. It was found that the enemy had established a strong Road block on the North/South Road at Bridge 688517. The block was actually in the 1/15 Punjab area, as they were established North of 'A' Coy on the road, with the road as their responsibility. 'A' Coy, however, tried to clear the block, supported by a troop of tanks. An enemy gun was encountered, and the attack failed. 'A' Coy commander, Capt C. Reynold was wounded. 1/15 Punjabs then continued operations against the enemy road block. The enemy however, evacuated during the night. Positions at Nightfall - As before, except 'C' Coy moved to 689502 below 'A' and 'B' Coys. Casualties - Enemy - 10. Own troops - 1 Officer and 8 O.Rs wounded.
