Entry | At daylight 18 enemy dead bodies were found close to the perimeter. It was found that the enemy had established themselves about 80 yards West of 'D' Coys perimeter with snipers in some buildings. They therefore had blocked the road between Bn HQ and these two forward Coys. Two Coys of 3/6 Raj Rifles arrived at Bn HQ at 0945 hrs. 'A' Coy, less 1 Pl, proceeded to new location at 0945 hrs. HQ Coy, 'B' Coy and 1 Pl 'A' Coy left for new location at 1200 hrs. Attack on enemy posn West of 'D' Coy planned with one Coy Raj Rifs supported by 1 Troop of medium tanks and 3" mortars. Attack commenced at 1215 hrs. operation successful and enemy cleared by 1410 hrs. Enemy shelled 'C' and 'D' Coy posns after the operation, causing some casualties. 'D' Coy rejoined Bn H.Q. preparetary to moving to new area. 2nd Coy of 3/6 Raj Rifs moved up to relieve 'C' Coy at 1530 hrs. 'D' and 'C' Coys and Bn Tac H.Q. left for new area at 1645 hrs arriving at destination about 1800 hrs. Positions at nightfall - Bn less one Coy at MINGALA 693539. 'A' Coy at KYAUKMIYWA 692560. Casualties - Enemy - Total inflicted during night 18/19 and operations on 19 March - 24 dead counted. Own casualties - 2 O.Rs killed. 8 wounded. Reference to Appendice: None. |
