Entry | Orders received to hold present posns and continue patrolling. Later in the day it was decided to attack and capture area of railway bridge 567640. 'A' and 'B' Coys detailed for this task under command of Major L.J.L. Hill, M.C. supported by Bty 115 Fd Regt. 'C' and 'D' Coys handed over their posns South of MANDALAY HILL to 8/12 F.F.R. at 1030 hrs. and returned to Bn. 'C' Coy took over 'B' Coys posn at 572657 and 'D' Coy came into Bn H.Q. area. 'A' and 'B' Coys had seized the posn at Rly Br 567640 by 1730 hrs and consolidated. During the attack an enemy 75 mm gun fired at them over open sights but the gun was silenced by our fire and the gun crew believed killed. This and another enemy gun was kept under our fire during the night, but was also covered by enemy fire, so could not be drawn in. 'B' Coy captured one locomotive in working order and one flat in their area, & 1 x 75 mm gun. During the night 'C' Coy sent a patrol to the Rly Stn and reported enemy movement on Rly line. Locations at nightfall: Bn less A, B, C Coys at 573661. 'A' and 'B' Coys at Rly bridge 567640, 'C' Coy at 572657. Casualties - Own tps - 2 O.Rs wounded. Reference to Appendice: Appx D.1.
