Entry | Bn, less 'C' and 'D' Coys given task of securing Road running East to West from 641558 to Road junc. 580640 (about 1500 yds South of S.W. corner of FORT DUFFERIN Wall). With a view to preventing withdrawal of enemy Southward. 'A' Coy advanced to line of Road running East and West from 569648 to 575648. During the advance this Coy surprised an enemy party working in an amn dump 570649. The dump which consisted of 75 mm, 105mm, 81mm Mtr and 37 A/TK amn was set on fire. 'A' Coy patrolled Southwards but enemy was found to be holding the road from 641550 to Road junc 580640 and as the advance of 1/15 Punjabs on our left was held up at 579660 the Bn's advance was not continued. 'B' Coy went into posn 572657 and Bn H.Q. at 573661. MANDALAY HILL. The tunnels below 'C' and 'D' Coys were reported clear at 0800 hrs and 11 bodies, 1 M.M.G. and quantities of equpt and documents were found. 'D' Coy attacked Pavilion and Football posns with 'C' Coy in support. The adv was held up by very strong posns underneath the roof of the Pavilion. It was decided that a large scale support programme was needed to deal with the situation. Beehives were set off on top of the roof and many penetrated making holes large enough to drop grenades through. Casualties - Enemy - 11 (Mandalay Hill). Own tps 2 ORs killed, 15 O.Rs wounded (incl 1 killed and 10 wounded on Mandalay Hill). Enemy guns captured - 1 M.M.G. Reference to Appendice: Appx I.2. AFW-3008-9 dated 11 Mar. Appx E.2.
