Entry | At 0630 hrs 'A' Coy proceeded back North along Rd to TAUNGBYON (7975) to clear enemy who had been infiltrating back onto this L of C during night, and to open the road for Div Tpt. 'C' Coy moved off at 0830 to clear enemy from area of road junction just North of MANDALAY HILL. 'B' Coy returned to Bn H.Q. area at 0930 hrs. Before returning one enemy prisoner was taken. 'D' Coy moved off at 1530 hrs to approach MANDALAY HILL from North. The Coy came in behind 'C' Coy, and occupied the top of the hill before nightfall. In meanwhile during day 'C' Coy caught a good number of the enemy in the Chaung running East & West, North of MANDALAY HILL. 'C' Coy accounted for 40 enemy killed, one 37mm gun captured, and 3 British made Bren guns recaptured. Bn occupied following areas for the night - Bn HQ, A & 'B' Coys with Bde H.Q. at KHANGON (595710). 'C' Coy area - SHEGYIN (610704). 'D' Coy - Top of hill 610695. Casualties - Enemy - 73 killed including 8 officers (bodies counted). Own troops - 2 O.Rs killed 4 O.Rs wounded. Reference to Appendice: None. |
