Entry | Bn left MADAYA at 0700 hrs by march route down main road to MANDALAY following behind 8/12 F.F.R. F.F.R. encountered strong opposition along route, but cleared the road. The Bn entered outskirts of MANDALAY at 1615 hrs and some fighting took place, also some enemy shelling. 'B' Coy killed at least 3 enemy in MANDALAY. The Bn was the second Bn of the Bde to enter MANDALAY. Some elements of 'Stilletto Force' including 1/15 Punjabs, had entered a few hours previously, and were engaged in clearing enemy off MANDALAY HILL. 4/4 G.R. commenced to assist in clearing enemy off this hill at 1700 hrs. The Bn had completed a 15 mile march in great heat, and the heavy weight of full equipment on the man, against some slight resistance, in about 9 hours. The troops were all pretty tired by the evening. At 1730 hrs 'B' Coy was ordered back along the road in M.T. to clear enemy out of KABAING (6075) where enemy had killed several of the Div tps passing down road, including C.S.O. 'B' Coy had a very successful action, killed 18 enemy, including 2 officers, mostly by hand grenades in a nullah, without suffering any casualties themselves. The village was completely cleared of enemy, and 'B' Coy remained to protect Div Tac H.Q. Enemy equipment was captured, including 2 officers swords and 1 wireless set. The remainder of the Bn, with Bde Tac H.Q. and F.F.R. less 2 Coys took up posns for night on the Northern outskirts of MANDALAY. Casualties - Enemy - 21 (estimated). Own troops - NIL.
