Entry | Bn, less 'A' and 'D' Coys, moved to MADAYA, starting out at 0630 hrs. 'B' Coy established astride main road in MADAYA at road junc 700215 at 1030 hrs. 'C' Coy took up a posn behind 'B' Coy in West side of town with Bn H.Q. behind. About 1100 enemy seen and engaged by 'B' Coy with small arms fire, mortars and medium Arty. Enemy attack broken and several enemy killed. 'C' Coy engaged enemy in Western outskirts and killed 12 and captured 1 P.O.W. Tpt harboured overnight at YANGONGALE under protection of 'D' Coy. At 1st light 'D' Coy constructed M.T. bridge over SHANMYAUNG CHAUNG allowing tpt then to move to TONGON (5896). 'D' Coy was then ordered forward to rejoin the Bn, entering MADAYA from West, and arrived there at 1230 hrs. This left tpt protected by only 1 section of C.Os Platoon. This Section patrolled into PINYA (6095) (on road leading into MADAYA from North) which had previously been reported held by enemy. They entered PINYA at 1030 hrs and drove out 7 Japs afterwards sitting astride main road to MADAYA until 4/4 G.R. passed through. 4/4 G.R. continued down the road to MADAYA and made contact with the Bn at 1330 hrs, and MADAYA was then clear of enemy. Bn took up posns in MADAYA for night with Bde H.Q. Casualties - Enemy Total of 20 counted, including 1 prisoner, and 10 further dead considered certain, but no time available for further detailed check of area. Own casualties - 1 Officer (2/Lt Challis) wounded. Reference to Appendice: None. |
