Entry | Bn moved from previous nights area with orders to capture SHWEGON-DAING (5515). 'C' Coy, 'D' Coy and Tac H.Q. moved off at 0800 hrs, other Coys remained in their posns. On arriving at 555165 'C' Coy was fired at by L.M.Gs and snipers from SHWEGONDAING and from HNGETSA (5516). Attack planned for 1200 hrs. Support;- 1 Sqdn of tanks (Stuarts) and Div Arty. At 1200 hrs concentration of 2 Fd Regts and 1 Bty Mediums, plus Bty Mtrs R.A. and Unit Mtrs on SHWEGONDAING with harrassing fire and smoke on NYAUNGBINYWA (Weight of shells fired - 27 tons). One tp of tanks moved to South of village to cut off escape routes. 'C' Coy moved fwd at 1220 hrs supported by 2 tps tanks and occupied SHWEGONDAING without much opposition. Village was set on fire by Mtr smoke and burnt furiously. Remainder of Bn, less 'A' Coy, passed through village at 1400 hrs and went into posn 160150. 'A' Coy protected Bde H.Q. for night. Casualties - Enemy - 15 dead counted 1 x 37 mm and 1 x 75 mm gun captured. Own casualties - 1 O R killed 5 O.Rs wounded. Notification received of the following Immediate Awards - M.Cs to Major L.J.L.
