Regiment | 2nd Royal Berkshire |
---|---|
Location | Kabwet, Burma |
Entry | Locations as on previous day. Day spent in patrolling. No enemy encountered in actual area. No gunfire or Mortar fire. Some enemy equipment recovered including 2 L.M.Gs, one Grenade discharger and some rifles. Further enemy dead bodies found - 8. All our dead bodies, of those previously reported missing, nine in all were found and were buried by Padre. These included Major J.L. Francis and Lieut W.L. Mildenhall. [Following text crossed out in original] The latters body gave the impression that he had been captured alive by the enemy and very possibly maltreated. His boots had been removed and his feet blistered, his hands were bent back in an awkward manner. His flesh round his upper body and arms was seared as if bound by a signal cable. His face, with wide open jaw, had a most un-natural expression. All other missing personnel appeared to have been killed before capture. [Normal text resumes] Patrols were sent out during day - see routes and results on attached SITREP. At 1945 'B' Coy reported that a party of about 5 enemy had been heard on the river edge, and had moved in between that Coy and an outlying Standing Patrol. Two grenades were thrown. Ambush patrol sent out at 2030 hrs, but did not contact enemy. No further enemy activity during night. Reference to Appendice: Appx A.1. Sitrep dated 011900 (In original only). |
