C Coy to move with tanks on the EAST side of road. Arty to fire for 10 minutes at [ ] 2, with 3" mortars. 1500 hrs. 11 hour. Arty commences. 1510 hrs. Infantry move in, and meet heavy LMG rifle fire from SE corner of village. Tanks assist. Japs are using slabs of gun cotton with detonators as grenades, and endeavouring to blow our troops and theirs up. One pagoda, and the area around it, is covered in booby traps and trip wires. This area, which is known to contain 3 Japs with large supplies of grenades, has to be left as time is going on. 1745 hrs. C Coy break contact and return to SAGA-IN. Japs killed: At least 18.
