Entry 0800 hrs. Bn ready to move. 0830 hrs. 2 Coys ordered to move to YWATHIT area 4641 to consolidate there. 2 Coys to remain SAGA-IN with Bn HQ. 1130 hrs. CO ordered to attack PANYA village (4543). C Coy ordered to do so, with 2 tps of (3 DG's) tanks. Arty. 2 btys 25 pdrs. Plan. 1pl of B Coy to secure pagoda areas at 456421 and 456428. C Coy to move with tanks on the EAST side of road. Arty to fire for 10 minutes at [ ] 2, with 3" mortars. 1500 hrs. 11 hour. Arty commences. 1510 hrs. Infantry move in, and meet heavy LMG rifle fire from SE corner of village. Tanks assist. Japs are using slabs of gun cotton with detonators as grenades, and endeavouring to blow our troops and theirs up. One pagoda, and the area around it, is covered in booby traps and trip wires. This area, which is known to contain 3 Japs with large supplies of grenades, has to be left as time is going on. 1745 hrs. C Coy break contact and return to SAGA-IN. Japs killed: At least 18.
