Their C.O. visited with Brigadier McNAUGHT (4th Brigade) and Brigadier SMITH (6th Brigade) to carry out a reconnaissance. A quiet day. Only one enemy shelling at 1100 hrs for 20 minutes. Shells fell outside the Bn area. No damage or casualties. The beer ration came up and was distributed. One bottle for consumption tonight, and 2 bottles tomorrow. The ration was actually less than 3 per man, but with non-drinkers, it means that every man should get 3 botts. The officers and WOs spirit ration arrived. Every officer has 1 bottle of AMERICAN whiskey, and each WO one half bottle AMERICAN whiskey, in addition to 3 bottles of beer. Rations up to scale. Weather: Very hot by day: cold at night. Slight breeze.
