Location RAIPUR, Burma
Entry 1000 hrs.C.O. and I.O. toured the Bn area. A burial squad arrived, with an Anti Malarial Squad to clean up the area. There are many Jap dead, cattle and animals to bury. 1200 hrs. On SHWEPYSHIN Island (2458) 2 Japs were seen. A sniper party is observing them for elimination. 1400 hrs. C.O. and I.O. toured the Bn area. All positions and sleeping trenches have been deepened and enlarged, with head cover. The burial of Jap bodies, cattle etc has now been completed. 1700 hrs. The C.O. attended a CO's conference at Brigade. It was announced that Major J.S.G. Walenn has been awarded the MILITARY CROSS. 1820 hrs. At 1820 hrs 10 shells from a 150mm enemy gun fell in the area 238607. There were no casualties. The shelled area was outside the Battalion Area. 1930 hrs. 2 or 3 x 150 mm guns again shelled the same area. 25 rounds were fired. In addition one 75mm fired three rounds into a platoon area of C Company at 235559. The shells fell 25 - 30 yards from the forward posts. No casualties. The telephone lines to this platoon and to Brigade were broken. 2035 hrs. A Company reported sounds of boats being dragged down the shore at the WEST end of KYAUKTALON village. The C.O. with the Mortar Officer (Capt A. BORELLI) went to A Company to get closer information, and a "crump" was fired on the area by our own guns. This appears to have been effective, as no more sounds were heard, and the shelling ceased for the night.
