Entry | At 0730 hrs the CO received orders to take two Coys to pt 5797 as information had been received that the Japanese, who were retreating fast, were establishing an assembly pt there. Three RA ORs were to go with the party. It was decided to take A and D Coys and Tac HQ. The coln left as soon as the OPs arrived, which was at 0900 hrs. The CO was told that he would be relieved by 5 Bde at 1400 hrs. At 1500 hrs the coln was still two hrs march from its destination. The going had been extremely difficult. The CO decided to box down for the night in a posn from which he could see the Japanese running around at pt 5797. He was told to attack the next morning. It was pointed out that the Bn was by now without food or water and that owing to various minor clashes with the enemy, amn was running low. It was decided to put down an arty concentration and then send forward two strong patrols to see the effect it had. This was done and it was found that the enemy was completely demoralised. The Bn, by this time very tired, were able to get some easy kills. We were relieved by the RWF at 1500 hrs and went into a Bde Box at MS 108. All ranks were very tired and weary, but triumphant.
