Regiment 1st Royal Berkshire
Location RAIPUR, Burma
Entry Sgt Garrett of 'D' Coy went forward early this morning not having received orders to do so and reported that the enemy had vacated the positions 20 yards in front of his company. Capt Hall ('C' Coy) reported that he had taken the previous evening what appeared to be an enemy headquarters. Operations were recommenced supported by tanks. 'A' and 'D' Coys pushed forward a little and 'C' Coy completed its intention of the 11th and joined up with 'Garrison Hill'. The R.W.F then sent a patrol to KUKI PICQUET. It was found that we had driven off any live enemy. The R.W.F. then occupied KUKI PIQUET and linked up with us. This completed the operations of the last 3 days. The whole of the KUKI PICQUET, F.S.D, D.I.S area was in our hands. During the operation the Bn captured, amongst other things, 1 Japanese 75 gun, 2 Regimental guns, 2 heavy Machine guns and several light Machine guns. It was impossible to estimate the number of enemy killed although a figure of 100 was given. The actual figure my have been twice or half this number as the bodies were in fox holes and tunnels and we did not lay them out in rows to count them. A congratulatory message was received from the Divisional Commander. He said "... your gutful action provided the key to the capturing of the KUKI PICQUET, F.S.D, D.I.S area."
