Entry It was learned this morning that D Coy was orderd by Bde to put in an attack on the water tower posn. of F.S.D. last night. Strength of attacking force to be 1pl under Lt Pocock. The attack was not successful as the enemy have about one pl on top of the hill very strongly dug in in bunkers. At 1830 hrs A Coy and Battle Patrol under Llewellen began to move up to F.S.D. in relief of D Coy and Lt DUNN'S pl. A Coy moved by pls with three quarters of an hours's interval between pls. Remarks: c.f. 4 May when 2 Coys D.L.I. failed to take F.S.D. in daylight. 8 / 9th. The first pl of 'D' Coy arrived back at 2210hrs and the relief was complete by 0100hrs 9th May. Lt Dunn's platoon had by this time been in positions considered to be cut off either completely or partially for the period of 19 days. 'B' and 'C' Coys had baths today in 'B' echelon area. The Q.M. had improvised baths by cutting 40 gallon oil drums in half. Reference to Appendices: A.F.W. 3009 and 3008 attached. Appendices I and II
