Entry | An escaped sepoy came in through C Coy area and was interrogated and information sent back to Bde H.Q. A local coolie employed by D.C. KOHIMA was brought in by the water party and also gave information which was passed back. Sniper activity again very slight today. Area being cleared and food and water centralised. It was decided to make a recce in force into the D.C. Bungalow area the force consisted of a Pln of D Coy supported by Arty and 3 tps TKS. After a preliminary concentration tanks moved into position on the road and the Pln advanced between C and D sectors. A BUNKER position was captured without opposition and a second taken against opposition the occupants being killed with grenades. A third bunker was knocked out by tanks, the platoon then advanced towards a further located position but were pinned down by heavy mortar and LMG fire. A section moved round on a flanking attack but were similarly pinned down it was considered that the recce had by this time achieved its object and the force was withdrawn. The whole attack and the withdrawal being supported by heavy small arms fire from B Coy. Casualties 3 killed 3 wounded 10 missing. During the early hours of the night the top of the hill area was heavily mortared. |
