Entry | 0001 hrs. Lt P.L. WHITEHEAD reported to Bn with 14 men. He had been on the vehicle train party. Owing to the fact that there was not a road block on the road through the Divisional area he drove straight through into KOHIMA which is in enemy hands. On being fired upon he decided to turn round and he reached our defences safely. 0900 hrs. The Dorsetshire Regiment 2i/c arrived and announced that he had two Companies to relieve two of ours. We had received no orders about this. The Commanding Officer decided to relieve A and D Coys. In the middle of the handover the C.O. of the Dorsetshire Regiment arrived and said that he had the remainder of his Bn to take over our positions completely. This he did relief being completed by 1615 hrs. Our C.O. and 2i/c had to recce a new Bn position hurriedly. The Bn was finally settled in positions as shown in Appendix. 2030 hrs. Orders were received to relieve the Royal West Kent Regiment in KOHIMA. Bn to leave location at 0800 hrs. Reference to Appendices: See Appendices XI and X |
