Regiment 1st Royal Berkshire
Location MAHABLESHWAR, Burma
Entry The Bn was inspected by GEN SIR GEORGE J GIFFARD K.C.B. D.S.O. (who showed a keen interest in the Bns training and state of health. He was told that our presence in MAHABLESHWAR was in order to try and stamp out the malaria amongst the troops. Of the Bn 24 officers and 641 O.R.s have had malaria and some have suffered many relapses. Since August 300 cases have been admitted to hospital. The Bns training whilst in its present location has consisted chiefly of jungle warfare and such dry - shod exercises as can be devised for combined operations).
