Entry 0830 HRS Jap Bombers flew very high over positions and dropped bombs in MAUNGDAW area, our fighters attacked them on their return journey much aerial activity throughout day. 10.35 An escaped SIKH P.O.W. brought into B.H.Q. by A. Coy. Had been led in by locals who could not be found. PATROLS. Sgt WADDINGTON returned 1600 HRS from Pt 1440 having been out since 0800 HRS 1/5/43. Had managed to get onto ridge at about 446366. Reported possible Jap O.P. at about 462328. Visibility to E only beyond 51 Grid line. Visibility to W good - 6 Bde area could be seen. Lt Baker (D) took out patrol of 1 and 6 to HKAMWEYA leaving 1400 HRS (General) R. Scots reached new positions on ridge early A.M. having broken down wire in chaung on A Coys postn. Enemy still moving N along R. flank of 55 Bde. Latest report of 3 Japs with LMG on ridge at 445407. Party liquidated by Coy L.F. Other small parties seen during the day in the area S of MAUNGDAW. BUTHIDAUNG road, and at 2200 HRS there was a patrol clash in 36 Bde area at about 479449.
