Entry PATROLS. Sgt Prince left at 08.00 hrs for Pt 1440 on a new route via KANBYIN (4036) MYAUK KINGYAUNG 4035 and onto the saddle from the North. Instructed to contact Sgt Waddington who had gone out by old route on 1/5. Contact evidently not made as at 20.00 hrs four men of Sgt Waddingtons patrol returned with the information that he had not been relieved and that he was stopping up there with 2 men until getting instructions. He had located movement at about 467326 but could not identify who it was. (In fact this must have been Japs who attacked 7/15 positions at 480323 from the N). GENERAL. R.S. moved by night into hills via KANBYIN and MYAUK KINGYAUNG to take up a line along ridge from Pt1433 4336 to Pt1440-4434, Lt DE GRUCHY was sent out with them as a guide. He was also to try and contact Sgt PRINCE and his patrol and tell them to return. 55 Bde front:- Japs still moving N in small parties having been seen as far N as SIMOCHAUNG 4637. Coy of the Burma Regt at 485356 was attacked by a strong party of enemy and had to retire eastwards. Coy of L.F. and Coy 6/11 Sikhs came to the area and stabilized the position.
