War Diary

1943-04-05
Regiment 1st Royal Berkshire
Location Indin, Burma
Entry Message received at 0800 hrs that supplies were going to be dropped by Aircraft. At 1200 hrs a Lockheed Hudson escorted by fighters circled the position and signals were made to show position. Interesting to note that the area was marked with 2" Mortar smoke and the actual dropping area by Verey lights. This was extremely successful. 28 containers were dropped by parachute containing food and ammunitions. At 1500 hrs a Douglas PP5 Tpt Plane repeated the morning work and dropped 62 packages all of which were not recovered. The evening drop was not so successful as the packages were pushed out of the side instead of being released from the back hatch. That day we fed and everyone was in good heart. Supplies included all types ammunition, Biscuits, raisins, Tea, milk and Sugar. In the evening 48 hr Light-scale rations were dropped.
