Entry | 2000 Bn Exercise "Mudlark" , to practise the Bn in a night crossing of a large tidal river and taking up a defensive position before dawn. This exercise was not quite the success that was hoped, as the very deep mud on the banks of the river caused a certain amount of confusion, and by dawn the Bn was not in a position to take up the defensive position. A great number of lessons were learnt however, and the remainder of the weeks training was devoted to practising the points that cropped up in this exercise, mainly overcoming the mud, and getting troops over a wide river without boats.
