Entry | 0730 Exercise 'JAMES'. To practise the Bn in dealing with situations arising in Jungle Warfare. Exercise began at half light with orders having been given on board ship and Bn formed up ready to move off, situation being that Bde less this Bn were making for an objective and Bn were detailed to guard flank from any attack. Objectives for covering the flank were gained after engagement with enemy on the ground, and reserve companies had been brought in. Umpires made numerous casualties particularly among officers and signallers, and therefore communications in the Jungle were difficult. This difficulty was largely overcome by patrols from Companies to Bn HQ, and the lesson was learnt that at least two men should travel together when taking messages owing to the danger of individual runners being ambushed. T/Capt Sedgewick P.W. attached to advance HQ 6 Inf: Brigade. Comments: The following Appendices are attached.
