| Entry | 1200hrs. Bn move fwd as leading Bn of leading Bde Gp. Task:- To pass through HASELUNNE (already cleared by 214 Bde) and on to HOLTE 9260. 1315hrs. Recce screen operating in front of Bn reports en opp from FLECHUM 8756. CO orders "B" Coy with 1 Tp Tks to clear this opp. Bn then to proceed along axis to HOLTE. 1510hrs. "B" Coy entering FLECHUM. No opp from en. 40 en seen withdrawing from HOVEN 8854 (SOUTH-EAST of FLECHUM) - heavily shelled by 25 pdrs. 15300hrs. "B" Coy report FLECHUM clear of en. Advance continues, "A" Coy leading. 2055hrs. Fwd tps now at 912566. A vance [Advance] delayed by rd blocks and mines. CO calls up AVREs to destroy concrete filled rd block at 912566. En op by small arms fire and bazookas, to "A" Coy in area in area of rd block. "A" Coy and tks dealing with opp. 2100hrs. "A" Coy have by-passed rd block and crushed en opp. En cas. killed 4, wounded 3, remaining en (6 or 7) escaped NORTH. Identifications;-4 Coy Trg Regt BRANDENBURG. Bde orders that as soon as rd block is eliminated Bn is to proceed along axis to HOLTE. 2120hrs. Tac HQ est in wood at 902562. Rear HQ 879561 (FLECHUM) "B" Coy in area rear HQ. "D" Coy back along axis area Tac HQ. CO orders "B" and "D" Coys to "curl up" in posn. Rd block NOT yet cleared so CO attempts diversion to WEST with "A" and "C" Coys. 2130hrs. Rd block cleared by AVREs. CO decides to send Coys fwd on foot to HOLTE. "A" Coy est firm base astride axis, with pls at 914865, 913564 and 911564. Advance to continue at approx 2359 hrs. |
