Coy 4 WILTS area 938503 (on Bn start line) over run by en. "H" for Bn attack put back from 1000 hrs to 1200hrs. 1115hrs. "A" Coy, leading Coy, pass Start pt at 943517 in error. Mistake soon rectified and coln turned about. "A" Coy cross Start pt at 1130 hrs. One Tk in Sp "A" hit by SP from area 952516. Our tks engaged en. Results not observed, but no further fire from en SP gun. Very heavy shelling on Start pt and along route from Start Pt to Start line. Cas heavy among leading Coys. but coln continues to move fwd to Dispersal Pt 942508. From Dis P Coln to divide. "A" Coy and Sp arms to move SOUTH EAST to capture high ground area 952498. Remainder of Bn to be diverted SOUTH and SOUTH WEST to capture objectives in area 9449 and 9448. 1230hrs. "A" "D" and "C" Coys on start line, "B" Coy still in area 942514. Coys held up on Start line by intense en Arty and Sp fire. Main en resistance from SOUTH EAST. En tank located at 948504. En SP at 951521. "A" Coy attempt to push on to objective, supported by "D" Coy, but are held up by continued fire from en Tks and SPs. All "A" Coys supporting tanks knocked out. 1340hrs. CO wounded by SP shell at temporary Bn HQ (9415007). Coys dig in on Start Line. 1500hrs. Fwd Bn HQ now est at 941512. Coys continue to dig in, and are holding firm in posns. Bde fully informed of situation and new CO (Major BRIND 2IC SOM LI) already on his way to Bn. "A" Coy 944506, "B" Coy (in reserve) 942514, "C" Coy 942503, "D" Coy 943504. Fwd Bn HQ 941512. Rear Bn HQ BEDBURG 931527. Bde asked for new timing for "H", In view of continued shelling and cas already suffered by Bn CO withholds decision. 2100hrs. Bn to attack, in conjunction with Coy 4 WILTS to clear fwd from start line and secure high ground immediately to SOUTH of present posns. 130 Bde to attack morning 15 Feb from posns to be gained by Bn during night attack. "C" Coy to clear houses, area X Rds 939508 (H - 2359). "D" Coy to move through "C" Coy ("H" - 0300) and occupy WESTERN half of spur as far at Pt 43.0. (944499). "D" Coy 4 WILTS to clear houses from 946505 to X Rds 94755030 ("H" - 2359). "A" Coy to move through "D" Coy 4 WILTS and move on to spur EAST of "D" Coy 5 WILTS ("H" - 0700). ALL operations without Arty sp, but with pre-arranged Arty fire on call. |
