Entry 0020hrs. D Coy standing patrol to 774552 encountered enemy - approx 6 - when at 772550 - enemy crossing and going EAST, were seen to enter house at 774552 pre-arranged posn for standing patrol. Patrol attacks with SA fir [fire] and grens and then withdraws - enemy believed to have suffered some cas. 0230hrs. Coy HQ of 4 Som LI (immediately to right of C Coy area) 762533 attacked and set on fire by strong fighting patrol of enemy - C Coy observed fire. 0245hrs. C Coy rece patrol, to discover if copse 776538 is occupied, reports a successful patrol. Copse found to be occupied MG in EAST corner. 0445hrs. D Coy fighting patrol to house at 774582 found it occupied as previously reported by standing patrol. Patrol attacked with grens and stens and then withdrew. Results not observed 0500hrs. 4 Som LI report a party of 200-300 enemy in gps of 50, within 300x of their left fwd coy posn. Enemy probably lost direction. After making a great deal of noise, the party turned about and made off in an EASTERLY direction. Light shelling during the morning. Several bearings obtained on enemy guns and retaliation tasks fired. 2259hrs. D Coy report enemy in area 774547 - believed to be forming up for an attack. Enemy immediately engaged by arty and mortar D.F. 2315hrs. D Coy ask for more arty spt and "CUBA" gp of fire tasks in put down by arty. 2345hrs.
