Entry Bn leaves assembly area and proceeds in TCVs to area of start line, this being fwd posns of 130 Bde in area 8099. 2 fwd coys cross SL at 0730 hrs and move on axis north of rly with objective on line 751002 - 755011. Bn encountered no opposition until fwd coy was held up by flak gun firing on road and rd block at 969014. A flak bty was also located at 778021. This was cleared by A Coy capturing 164 PW, 1 PW, 1 X 5" gun 5 x 88 mm and a number of 20 mm. An SS HQ and a Russian and Polish labour camp were captured at 762005. A Coy captured hospital containing 80 German wounded. After securing objective Bn receives orders to carry on advances to the park in area 7300. Advance goes on without opposition until fwd coys reach edge of the park where they meet stiff resistance. A coy enter the park in the area of a German barracks. After a hard fight with the enemy fighting fanatically A Coy Comd, on moving fwd to do a recce in a carrier in an area which he thought to be occupied by A coy was shot by enemy MG fire. He died soon afterwards. The carrier driver was wounded. Shortly after this occurred the Comd Offr, Lt. Col. J.E.L. CORBYN, MC who had moved fwd to this area was wounded by our own shell fire and Major W.M. Allen 2IC took over comd. By dark D and B coys were firmly est on road from 735004 - 737009. Major B.G.P. POPE, D Coy Comd reported neither hearing or seeing any signs of the enemy and on recceing a large concrete bunker at 734001, accompanied by his runner found it to be occupied by General BECKER with his staff and large number of other troops. These he handed over to 4 SOM LI who took over the area.
