Regiment 4th Wiltshire
Location France
Entry The en were dealt with by our tks in the morning and a few PW were brought in. Our 6 pdrs were also brought up. There was hy shelling during the morning but cas were not too high [hy]. Maj. IRISH comd of 224 Bty RA was wounded. At 1200 hrs the bn was relieved by 1 WORCS now comd by our former 2IC Lt. Col. R.E. Osborne Smith, and moved by tpt to a rest area near Le MESNIL AUZOUF a considerable distance behind. While the bn was on top of MONT PINCON, the bn admin area, which was in an orchard over a mile behind, was attacked by a German fighting patrol. It was beaten off by the Carrier pl and HQ personnel, but during the confusion the Sig Offr Lieut, B. Ackland went down a lane and was not heard of again. The bn settled down to rest, which was very well earned, as there had been hardly any sleep for 48 hrs and the rifle coys had a great deal of marching.
