| Entry | 0045: 2 Carriers, A & D Coy survivors, arr FRESNES, having withdrawn under orders by March route via ROEUX and GAURELLE, under 2/Lt Early, 2/Lt Sarne, Capt Bond, 2/Lt Lucas and 2/Lt Ward. Lt-Col Moore arrives with this party, and reports to Brig Dempsey. Carriers put out for defence of village VITRY 0100: Bn departs by march route under Capt Woolnough to VITRY-EN-ARTOIS about 260 strong 0140: Bn arrives VITRY, finds some 'A' Ech T/p, 9 vehicles. Most of men put on these, and dep for RACHES via DOUAI. Remainder march on under Capt HOARE, and picked up in our Carriers and carriers of other units, and brought to RACHES RACHES 0400: Bn arriving RACHES, 6 miles NORTH of DOUAI, and goes up into concealment in a park with Bde HQs and 2 Innisks. Hot tea issued from 'D' Coy cooks lorry. Bn resting. All 10 Bren carriers come in 0800-1030: Enemy bombers over 1040: Carrier Pl under 2/Lt Widnell sent out to cover bridges, under orders of Bde Major - Capt Rock 1300: Air Raid 1430: 2 Cooks lorries arrive from 'B' ech with water truck. Dinners issued to men 1600: Orders from Brig Dempsey to move from present location to billet area at GRAND ENNETIERES GRAND ENNETIERES 1930: Bn dep. in 8 Troop carriers and unit 'A' Ech M.T. to ENNETIERES 2045: Bn arr ENNETIERES, billets already allotted by Capt Comerford Green, and Bn moves in 2300: Major WALKER arrives, having made his way from CHERBOURG. Various elements of A & B Ech MT arrive |
