Entry A patrol opened the track between bridgehead and our box. C Coy found the patrol. At 0730 a patrol from D Coy moved to investigate village BUGYI which is reported still occupied by the enemy. A Coy also sent a patrol to investigate local report that unnamed village was still un-occupied they found the Japs had evacuated after a mortar barrage had been laid down by our mortars, who had successfully had a direct hit on an enemy OP killing one Jap and wounding two seriously. The Jap body had been stripped and wounded hurriedly carried away by remaining Japs, according to local report. 1 Pl A Coy is now est. GWEGON. The D Coy patrol connected with A Coy patrol pushed out from GWEGON. Remainder of D Coy moved at 1200 hrs with local guide to contact patrols and attempt to enter BUGYI. This morning an air O.P. reports a 2 mile column of tps moving south 2500 yds north of us. The R.W.F. sent a patrol to contact and identify. C Coy sent a standing patrol to un-named village to give warning if they were Japs troops. At approx 1415 RWF made contact with headman of CHIMYITKYIN who reported that a force of some 200/300 Indian troops with white officers had passed through at same time as air OP reported. 19 Div reported they had been moving in that area but did not realise they were so far south. This was also confirmed by HQRA. At 1540 hrs all available arty and mediums finished ranging preparatory to assisting D Coy to attack capture and consolidate BUGYI. The barrage went down at 1619 hrs followed by 2 more clumps. Then D Coy went in and occupied more than half the village and consolidated for the night.
