Entry | This morning Tac HQ, A and B Coys moved by march route to contact C Coy believed to be KYIGNON. The column moved at 0500 hrs by march route reaching ETTAW at 0620 hrs and B Coy pushed ahead to try and contact C Coy. Here we were joined by 2 Pls of C Coy. B Coy reached the MU river and sent a guide back to guide our column. TAC HQ 2 Pl of C Coy crossed and formed a bridgehead at 0800 hrs leaving A Coy on the west side. B Coy having already crossed and gone forward. We settled in our bridgehead while a patrol from 1Pl C Coy moved to enter unnamed village 1mile north of us returning at 0900 hrs reporting having seen Japs in the village. At 0910 a patrol of B Coy contacted us and guided us to KYIGNON where we arrived at 1030 hrs to observe 5 or 6 Japs hurry out and disappear. The remaining pl of C Coy and Coy comd joined us at 1130 hrs. Here we dug in and consolidated. B Coy moved at 1400 hrs to occupy BUGYI which they had tried to reach earlier but found the village occupied by Japs. D Coy contacted us at 1400 hrs. After a sharp encounter with the enemy B Coy found themselves unable to take BUGYI owing to the difficult flat open country they subsequently withdrew to the main box at 1520 hrs. Our casualties were C.S.M. Hill killed and 2 ORs wounded and evac.This afternoon the B.P Pl escorted the Mule Pl across the river MU carrying cooks kit. A Coy crossed the MU river and est a bridgehead on east bank opposite ETTAW. A patrol found by B.P Pl left box at 1830 hrs to investigate and form a listening post area BUGYI they returned NTR at 0600 hrs. The night was quiet. |
