Entry | C Coy with armoured column moved from start point at 0805 hrs remainder of Bn moving by march route left last nights area at 0730 hrs passing start point at 0810 hrs. The armoured column under comd C.O made contact with enemy at 0930 hrs. The action took place 5 miles south east of TAWGYIN at PT.977. D Coy was brought fwd and combed jungle N of the road. 16 Fd Bty had previously spent considerable time shelling area together with own mortars. The enemy were using a mortar and snipers were active, but after action by 16 Fd Bty no further opposition was encountered. C Coy moved on to feature and found packs and document hurriedly left by the Japs. The column proceeded at 1145 hrs. At 1340 hrs however further opposition was met in area PT 902 some 3 miles further on taking form of grenade discharges or mortars and L.M.G. 1 Pl of A Coy who were with armoured column took up protection of tanks while they shelled the area the remainder of the company were rushed up at 1350. Owing to thick jungle visibilty was very poor. B & D Coy combed jungle each side of road up to leading troops, the opposition was cleared and column proceeded to track junc 2 mile on where we reached at 1600 hrs and harboured for the night. We had 20 casualties. Remarks: Up to tonight we claim having killed 26 Japs and 1 Probable. |
