Location RAIPUR, Burma
Entry The armoured column was reformed as day previous and moved off under comd CO at 0820 hrs. The Bn less B Coy, marched from last nights bivouac area at 0845 hrs arrived PYINGAING at 1145 where tea was served and march continued at 1215. After 5 miles marching carriers ferried Coys up to Bde Box est at a point 4 1/2 miles from WAINGGYO. Here HQ Coy C Coy and A Coy reformed part of Bde Box. B Coy were ferried up in trucks to armoured column from 5 miles West of PYINGAING at 0700 hrs. The armoured column consisting of D Coy B Coy & 2 Pls of Bombay Grenadiers and a Pl of REs supported by own mortars in carriers moved down line of road using mullahs where possible with the object of establishing themselves in WAINGGYO. A second column under comd Major Walenn followed in rear of armour along road with REs and carriers making road fit for MT as they moved fwd. Armour column made contact with enemy at 1500 hrs at a point 2 1/2 miles west of WAINGGYO. Here the column withdrew to form a perimeter astride the road while patrols probed the enemy defences. Casualties as follows, Lt/Col L.A.B. Robinson wounded in leg. Maj F.H.B. BOSHELL wounded in arm and leg both evacuated. Lt S.J. WRIGHT not evacuated slight wound left arm and 3 B.O.R.'s also slightly wounded evacuated. MAJOR F.M. BARTON assumes [comd] of the Bn. Food for fwd troops conveyed to them by transport from Bde Box 2 miles in rear. The night was quiet.
